Effect of Cymbopogon citratus on Enteric Methane Emission, Nutrients Digestibility, and Energy Partition in Growing Beef Cattle

Methane production is a waste of energy for ruminants and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. The objective the present study was evaluate anti-methanogenic effect increasing supplementation levels Cymbopogon citratus (CC) on dry matter intake (DMI), digestibility, methane (CH4) production, partitioning gross in growing beef heifers fed with diet high forage (68.6% forage: 31.4% concentrate). An experiment conducted using Holstein × Charolais distributed 4 Latin square design. experimental treatments were: (1) control (CO), (2) CO + 30 g CC DM/d, (3) 60 DM/d CC, (4) 90 DM/d. A reduction 22.4% yield (CH4 g/kg DMI) 21.2% Ym factor observed treatment (p ≤ 0.05). However, no significant differences > 0.05) were total daily CH4 DMI, nutrient heifers.
